He’d started thinking about changes he wanted to make to his wedding ring about 25 years ago. Changes that would enhance the ring – just as their years together had enhanced their relationship.
So recently, he sat down with me and with one of his designers (yes, he’s in the business of creativity) and they sketched out his dream.
“Do you mean something like this?,” she’d say as he talked and she sketched.
First, his ring was cut in half and set apart to hold the 3 square cut precious gemstones – Sapphire, Alexandrite – their birthstones and a Diamond – the gemstone of marriage. To accentuate the gemstones, we set them each inside 2 14 kt gold bars.
A Stunning Design!
We’ll work on hers next.
So I was just heading out to the 1st fairway with my wife when we bumped into a lovely lady about to take part in the same golf tournament.
“Gary, I love my ring”, she said as we met. (You’ll remember this ring from previous recent pictures). I smiled and turned in time to meet her future sister in law who joined in, “Gary, I love my ring”. (We designed her engagement and wedding rings 3 years ago) Out from behind a car, mom popped out and chimed in, “Gary, I love my ring”. (We redesigned her wedding ring some years ago).
We had a great chuckle and I walked away thinking how honoured I am to be considered the jeweller of choice by two generations of family members. Three beautiful rings adorning three lovely ladies hands.
I worked with Dave last summer to design a beautiful, elegant ring for Nicole. This spring we started to think about the Wedding Bands. Their faith is central to their relationship and so they chose an inscription in Hebrew from the Book of Genesis which was hand engraved in Dave’s wedding band.
But that wasn’t all. When Dave presented Nicole with her Wedding Band and Engagement Ring, she found a second band to completely surround her Engagement Ring. He’s surrounded his love for her with his eternal commitment.
I gotta say, he’s got it right.
We met at the Starbucks close to his office at Winnipeg Square and discussed the design. At his dining room table, we selected the perfect Diamonds. She was out working that Saturday afternoon. You saw the Diamond he chose.
While we were all waiting for spring to arrive in what seemed like an endless winter, our goldsmiths worked to create this beauty. He took part in each stage, ensuring it was just everything he wanted because she deserves the best.
A brilliant cut centre Diamond with two Diamonds set in the side of the head and lovely Diamonds in the shank encircling her finger. It’s on her finger now. Exactly where it belongs.
Five years ago, we created the engagement ring and wedding band for this lovely couple’s wedding. Two children later, he reminds her of his commitment to her with this family ring, resplendent with all of their birthstones; light blue Alexandrite, two lively Emeralds, and one pale blue Zircon.
I received a call from a young man looking to purchase an engagement ring. I love that first phone call because that anticipation and enthusiasm is so palpable. I have the privilege of letting my heart skip a beat with the excitement of it, too. It never gets old.
So, here is where we are today. He’s picked out the diamond. He’s chosen an exquisite mount with diamonds along the shank. And now he has to wait patiently for it to come together.
Imagine what it will look like when it all comes together.
