His first email told me he had an idea to combine a beautiful pear shaped diamond from his mother’s ring to make an engagement ring for the woman he wanted to marry. Great idea. Could we work the details between phone calls and emails – he being in Regina and I in Winnipeg?
Isn’t technology grand? Sending photos back and forth we designed a beautiful ring and wedding band – a true labour of love.
The ring is held in white gold. The engraved wedding band is the perfect complement.
Concierge service included delivery in Regina at a local Tim Horton’s. She said yes that evening.
So they were going to spend their 19th anniversary in New York. Elegant dinner – he pulled an Oro de Rey box out of their backpack and presented her with the diamond he thought belonged in her wedding ring.
She loved it. We set it in her original ring upon their return. She loves it. He’s smiling. We’re happy.
They met at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers game in September 2011 in the Rum Hut. Mike and his buddies are hard core Bomber fans and the day Jenny met him, he and his buddies were all in their “Blue Suits” even wearing their spray painted gold shoes. The Bombers were playing the Roughriders this day and it was a big game. Jenny is not a huge football fan but really wanted to go to the game. A friend of hers had an extra ticket but if Jenny wanted to go she would have to go dressed as a Roughrider fan. So Jenny decked out all in Green Machine Gear.
Who’d have thought they’d end up on the same turf?
He’d started thinking about changes he wanted to make to his wedding ring about 25 years ago. Changes that would enhance the ring – just as their years together had enhanced their relationship.
So recently, he sat down with me and with one of his designers (yes, he’s in the business of creativity) and they sketched out his dream.
“Do you mean something like this?,” she’d say as he talked and she sketched.
First, his ring was cut in half and set apart to hold the 3 square cut precious gemstones – Sapphire, Alexandrite – their birthstones and a Diamond – the gemstone of marriage. To accentuate the gemstones, we set them each inside 2 14 kt gold bars.
Every custom designed engagement ring we make fills me with gratitude and pride. Gratitude for the trust that is placed in Oro de Rey to design a ring that is meant to be worn on the bride’s hand always and pride at the beauty of the finished product. My clients, my colleagues and my friends hear me say it all the time. I have the best job ever!
Often my clients come back to me and share their engagement and wedding pictures with me and I can’t stop beaming. Someone else has captured the beauty of the ring(s) and found yet another way to show it. So of course, when I may, I have to share it with you too. Thanks to Victoria Anne Photography for sharing these pictures.
The plan went off without a hitch! I waited until Brandi got home from work. Our daughter didn’t want to go to sleep but Brandi’s magic got her to sleep with relative ease. Brandi came back into the living room and sat down to enjoy a TV show. She asked me if I could get her a glass of water and I said sure. I came into the living room with her favorite bottle of wine which had the velvet Oro de Rey bag hanging on the neck of the bottle. She asked me why I had a bottle of wine and I told her it was to celebrate. I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.
The tears flowed, the ring fit beautifully, she LOVES the ring. She has been calling friends and family and ranting and raving about the ring.
Thank you so much for helping to make this moment possible with the wonderful work you do. As I said yesterday, the experience was one of a kind and the entire process was one I will never forget and I look forward to the days ahead when it comes time for wedding bands.
When you get a chance I would love to show her the beautiful pictures you took of the ring in the snow outside while you were freezing and with the beautiful plants in your home.
